Starfield, the latest sci-fi RPG from Bethesda Game Studios, has been one of the most anticipated games of the year. However, not everything is smooth sailing for the spacefaring adventure, as some players have encountered bizarre and hilarious glitches involving the game’s non-player characters (NPCs).
What is the Starfield Giant NPC Glitch?
One of the most viral examples of these glitches was posted by a female gamer named Caitlin Puke, who goes by the handle @slowpuke_ on X formerly known as Twitter. In her video, she showed how one of the Starfield NPCs inexplicably turned into a giant after she beat it down with a wrench.
In the same video, her Starfield character inexplicably started to float and run at hyper speed, clipping through walls and the floor.
The video has amassed thousands of views and comments, with many users expressing their amusement, disbelief, or frustration at the game’s state. Some even compared the glitch to the infamous Fallout 76 NPC bugs that plagued Bethesda’s previous game.
@slowpuke_’s video is not an isolated incident, as other players have reported similar glitches with Starfield’s NPCs. Some have seen headless NPCs with only eyeballs, characters missing entire faces, or NPCs that look like horrifying abominations with upside-down heads and fractured textures. These creepy glitches have been documented and shared by players on various platforms, such as Reddit, YouTube, and TikTok.

While some players find these glitches entertaining or harmless, others are not so amused. Starfield has received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike, with some praising its scale, combat, and side quests, while others criticizing its shallow RPG systems, uninspired vision of the cosmos, and lack of polish. The game currently has a lot of scores hovering around the 7/10 range, with many user reviews pointing out the game’s bugs and glitches as one of the main reasons for their disappointment.
Starfield is not the first game to suffer from NPC glitches, nor will it be the last. However, for a game that promises to take players on an epic journey across the galaxy, these glitches can break the immersion and ruin the experience for some. Whether Bethesda will be able to fix these glitches and improve the game’s quality remains to be seen.
