The world of sports can be cutthroat sometimes as we have seen throughout the playoffs. In recent weeks the fans have become increasingly brazen with their acts of disrespecting players. We saw Trae Young get spit on, popcorn thrown at Russell Westbrook, and a water bottle thrown at Kyrie Irving. Now a Mavericks fan praying for Paul George to break his leg again can be added to the list.
In a viral twitter post the Mavericks fan posted a picture of the moment Paul George broke his leg with a caption saying, “Praying for a repeat of this tonight”. They even added prayer hands to convey they were truly hoping this would happen.
Wishing harm upon another person because of a game just seems outlandish, but in the world of sports fandom sometimes becomes an important part of life. For example some Knicks fans are really going through deep depression after what Trae Young did to them in Madison Square Garden.
Nevertheless this Mavericks fan praying for Paul George to break his leg crosses boundaries into a place that goes beyond sports. It’s sad to see fans going that far.
